District 6820 Governor Barbara Travis hosted a "Women in Rotary" Celebration Brunch on June 29 featuring Dr. Sylvia Whitlock, the first female Club President in Rotary's history, held at the Jackson Country Club. Dr. Whitlock had a fascinating tale of the court case that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1987 to allow women to become members of Rotary. Her Rotary Club in California became known as the "Mouse that Roared". Dr. Whitlock speaks to about 25 Rotary Clubs a year, but this was her first trip to Mississippi.

Representing District 6840 were Deputy Governor Steve Howard, DGE Kathie Short, DGN Ken Thompson, and Rotaractor Victoria King. Additional photos can be found in the Photo Album on the lower left of your screen.
