By Craig Gillis, District Rotary Youth Exchange Chair, District Governor Nominee Designate (2018-19)
At the recent NAYEN (North American Youth Exchange Network) Conference hosted in Calgary, Alberta, the Rotary Youth Exchange Program of District 5020 was honored with the Dr. Abe Kuttothara Award as the “outstanding Rotary Youth Exchange District in North America.”
The award is given annually to a District from Canada, the U.S., or Mexico that exemplifies the ideals of Rotary Youth Exchange fostered by a North American Youth Exchange Network pioneer, Dr. Abe Kuttothara.
By Joanne Croghan, District 5020 Governor (2016-17)
Don and I have very much enjoyed attending a number of our Rotary Foundation’s Birthday Celebrations throughout the District. The passion, creativity and dedication of our Rotarians continues to delight as we attend just as many functions as our schedule will allow.
The theme for April in the Rotary Calendar is Maternal and Child Health. This would seem a very easy theme. Mothers everywhere basically want the same things for their children: That is good health, sufficient food, and education. In some parts of our world this is relatively easy but in the developing world today many challenges exist.

The following donors were honored and recognized at the recent District 5020 Centennial Celebration Dinner held on March 18, 2017, at the elegant Oak Bay Beach Hotel.
These Rotarians collectively contributed $694,468 in cash and/or bequests, supporting and celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of our Rotary Foundation.

By Perry Bamji, B.Sc.; M.Sc. (Eng); Ph.D.; Past Club President, Rotarian of the Year 2006
When I took over as President of the Rotary Club of Kingston, Ontario in 2001-2002 we had 142 members and 34 committees organizing various club activities.
Every year committee members changed and operational experience was invariably lost. In some instances, Rotarians were unaware of past history and “reinvented the wheel”.
This is where I felt that I should introduce Knowledge Management (KM); one of the topics that I taught at Queen’s University School of Business. I presented the topic of KM to my Board and had unanimous support.
GAME KIOSKS FOR HOSPITAL-BOUND CHILDREN OFFER RELIEF
By Kathi Melendez, Rotary Club of Gig Harbor North; Club Secretary
In 2016 I saw a human-interest story about a company providing portable game kiosks for use in children’s hospitals to provide video games to the children, particularly those who were unable to leave their rooms. The games are used as a means to provide relief through distraction, socialization, and education.
I immediately thought of our local Mary Bridge Children’s hospital in Tacoma. With my Rotarian husband Lou, we began with conference calls with the company, Gamers Outreach and Mary Bridge Child Life Services.

ROTARY CLUB CENTRAL: 5 YEARS AFTER DEBUT, UPGRADE IN THE WORKS
Link to Rotary story submitted by Tom Carroll, District 5020 Governor Elect (2017-18)
When Rotary International introduced Rotary Club Central in 2012, it revolutionized goal tracking and planning for clubs and districts — no more filling out paper club-planning forms or passing along boxes of historical club information every time a new leader took office.
But, as with any technological advancement, in a few short years, Rotary Club Central began to show its age, and Rotarians wanted a tool that was more robust, faster to use, and easier to navigate.
