Governor’s Message: February 2018
By Tom Carroll, District Governor 2017-18
District 5020 Interact Club Wins Global Video Competition!  Selected over 140 Interact clubs representing 28 countries, the Mark R. Isfeld Interact Club from Courtenay, BC won the highly competitive award with their video, "People of Action".  Watch it here.

Two New Rotary Clubs! The Rotary E-Club of District 5020 was chartered in January, and a new club in the Comox Valley of Vancouver Island likely will charter in February. Chartering new Rotary clubs is one way to ensure we are offering the Rotary experience in new and different ways. The key is flexibility. Rotary is a membership organization; only through attracting new members will we increase our service to the world.

Growing Membership
5 Tips to Keep Member Leads Flowing
In the cold winter months of the year every club struggles with meeting attendance. And with lower meeting attendance comes a tendency to put member attraction and growth on the back burner til the warming suns of spring.

At this time of year I would encourage you not to be a groundhog afraid of your shadow. Put these five membership attraction tips into motion and your club should be a perennial powerhouse of membership activity.

Rotary Club of Port Hardy Christmas Hamper Fund
The Rotary Club of Port Hardy has done it again... they surpassed their donation amount from last year for the North Island Gazette Christmas Hamper Fund!

The Port Hardy club and its members donated $6400 to help cover costs towards preparing and delivering 600 food hampers throughout Northern Vancouver Island during the holidays for those in need. The Hamper Fund's goal was to raise $40,000.

Call for Newsletter Content & Hello!
Hello everyone reading this, Leif Jason here from the Rotary Club of Comox, and your new District 5020 Newsletter Editor. I’m thrilled to be taking on the responsibility of compiling and sending out this newsletter every month! I’d love to see lots of great submissions from your clubs. I’m personally particularly interested in creative fundraising, and am eventually hoping to put some time into creating fundraising manuals useful at a district level. If your club has a Facebook page or Twitter account please reply to this email and let me know where to find you: I’d like to proactively follow your clubs and see if I find any neat story ideas! All the best, and thank you in advance for your submissions.
