At the April 28 Annual Auction for the Rotary Club of Tacoma #8, the 'Raise the Paddle' was done for donating to building a Habitat for Humanity house for the Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity.  Over $78,000 was raised and at the June 7 meeting of Tacoma #8 Rotary, the check was presented by Club President Mark Anderson and Auction Chair Carol Duris to club members Maureen Fife, Habitat CEO and Elliot Stockstad, Habitat Development Director.  Club members will assist in the house build which will begin in mid Summer, 2018.

About Rotary Club of Tacoma #8

Established in 1910, we're the 8th oldest Rotary club in the world. Within Tacoma, the Rotary Club of Tacoma (known as Rotary #8) donates grants to non-profit organizations, recommended by the Community Grants Committee, that serve low-income children and seniors.   Rotary 8 also has several “hands-on” projects where Rotarians offer their service.  Some of these "hands on" projects are:
.  Read2Me - Rotarians  tutor 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students at four low-income schools;
.  Food Drives and Repacks - for the Emergency Food Network. Every quarter the club donates items and cash to support local food banks and other non-profits as well as repacking food for distribution in the community; and
.  Little Free Libraries - Rotarians build and install these libraries, filled with good children's books, near low-income elementary schools.

Rotary #8 has international projects such as clean water projects in Ethiopia and India, has brought firefighting equipment to Mexico, and has delivered school materials to Malawi.   Tacoma Rotarians have given Polio immunizations to children in India and Africa.
