The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County was recognized April 16th, 2018, at the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) Annual Meeting with the prestigious WASA Community Leadership Award. Club President Terry Umbreit accepted the award on behalf of the club. The Rotary Club was recognized for their tremendously supportive and creative relationship with Chimacum Schools.

  The Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) is an organization for professional administrators that is committed to leadership in providing equity and excellence in student learning, and in developing competent, ethical and visionary leaders.

     Chimacum Schools Superintendent Rick Thompson said “The Rotary Club sponsors students of the month, sponsors annual exchange students from Chimacum High School to foreign countries and hosts foreign exchange students from other countries. The Club sponsors the Rotary-affiliated high school Interact Club, supports the High School with scholarships, supports fundraising efforts, and encourages student leadership opportunities.  We are honored as a school district to partner with them!”

     Club President Terry Umbreit said “I am honored to accept this award on behalf of our Rotary club. We have supported Chimacum Schools for many years, and look forward to doing so for many more.”  Rotarians and Club members Linda and Karl Kostenbader, who have been active for over a decade supporting Chimacum Schools and in encouraging others in the Club , attended the awards dinner as well.


The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County, chartered in 1982,  is one of seven Rotary clubs on the Olympic Peninsula. Members and guests of the Club meet weekly for an hour, Thursdays at noon, at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road (across from Chimacum High School). Walk-ins are welcomed.
