During my last newsletter, I mentioned I had fallen off my cabin roof and was on the mend.  It turns out I had injured myself more seriously than originally determined, and had to go back into the hospital for surgery.  I am recovering and am now back visiting clubs again.  I want to thank the clubs and individual Rotarians who sent get-well cards and posted kind comments on my Facebook page. And I want to thank Vice Governor David Stocks for filling in for me at the 54th Rotary World Golf Championships at Bear Mountain Westin Golf Resort near Victoria, BC.

I was able to visit some clubs in August, including West Olympia, Sequim Sunrise, Bainbridge Island, Kingston, Poulsbo, Silverdale, Woodland, Centralia, Chehalis, Longview, Longview Early Edition, Kelso and Twin Cities.  A special thank you to Assistant Governors Meredith Green and Mike Crouse for arranging all of the logistics.

Immediate Past District Governor and District Nomination Committee Chair Joanne Croghan has sent an announcement to all club presidents notifying them of the deadline to nominate a Rotarian to serve as District Governor, effective July 1, 2020.  What a great opportunity to serve Rotary and to help clubs succeed.

September’s theme is Basic Education and Literacy.  More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. That’s 17 percent of the world’s adult population. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.  As we have been visiting clubs this year, Laurie has been asking each club to track the number of books they donate to their respective communities.  Please take a look at Laurie’s article in this month’s newsletter.
