Prepare For Major Rotary Year Celebrations

Next month marks the celebration of the 2014-15 Rotary Year, as districts around the world mark their achievements at their Annual District Conference.
The 2015 District Conference committee has been working very hard to showcase the many projects undertaken by our district 5020 clubs. There will also be many projects displayed in the House of Friendship when the Conference convenes June 19-21 in Nanaimo. Clubs and members who have contributed significantly to Rotary in the past year will be recognized with special awards.

I have to celebrate the most amazing and rewarding journey that I could ever have been the given the opportunity to take as a member of Rotary – the privilege of being your District Governor for this Rotary year. Past District Governors told me that the highlight of my year would be the opportunity to visit all our clubs and meet so many fine Rotary members. They were right. My 88 official District Governor club visits were completed on December 3rd.

The Second Time Around

Someone asked me then how many clubs I planned to visit a second time. My first response was, “Not very many,” but then I started my second round of visits.  Lo and behold, by the end of May, I will have visited nearly all our clubs for a second time.

I especially enjoyed the special foundation dinners presented by the three Gig Harbor clubs and also all the clubs in Thurston County. Another group event was organized by the four Nanaimo and one Lantzville club to celebrate “Light Up Rotary” in Nanaimo.

I found myself making so many second visits because of the wonderful reception I had received from our clubs, and also because it was so enjoyable to see as many members as possible for a second time.

Now what I would very much like to do is visit with each of you for a third time this Rotary year. The only way that I can do this is if you plan to attend our District Conference in Nanaimo on June 19th to 21st. It is being held at a wonderful new facility -- the Vancouver Island Conference Center.

What a wonderful way for us all to celebrate our Rotary year!
