Congratulations to Maureen Fritz-Roberts from Rotary Club of Comox who was recently selected to be Rotary District 5020 District Governor for the 2019-2020 Rotary year.

The first time Maureen Fritz-Roberts put three drops of polio vaccine into the mouth of an Ethiopian child, she felt like a super hero.

"Every Rotarian saves and improves the lives of others in one way or another. I think that has to make all Rotarians into super heroes."

Maureen, the District Governor Nominee Designate for District 5020 for 2019-2020 wanted to be a Rotarian long before women were welcome to join.

"I've been married to a Rotarian for over 40 years. We even went to a Rotary meeting on our honeymoon in Barbados. But it wasn't until Bob Hatch invited me to join in 2003 that I got the chance to actually be a Rotarian. In those days, you had to wait to be asked."

"I've been very lucky in Rotary to have the opportunity to do things faster than is normal for most Rotarians. I was the Membership chair in the Comox Rotary club within a few months of joining the club and was fast tracked to District Membership chair before I was president of my own club."

"I had the honour of being registrar of one of 7 world-wide membership summits when Wilf Wilkinson was Rotary International President. I've been able to meet presidents of countries and go places with Rotary that I never thought I would go."

Maureen, a past-president of the Rotary Club of Comox, is a mother of two grown children and grandmother of 6. She is married to Dale, who is also a Comox past-president and they have run a number of businesses together over the years.

Currently, Maureen is manager of a law and notary office, a member of the Comox Rotary World Community Service committee, a member of the District 5020 Visioning, Rotary Leadership Institute team and is chair of the Mid Island Group.

Maureen (Mo) lives in Courtenay and is owned by Molly, a 7 year old Labradoodle.
