Happy May! So many great things are happening around our Rotary district this month – community clean-ups, fundraising BBQ’s, plant & flower sales, and food distributions to name a few! All hosted by Rotary Clubs and organized and run by all our dedicated “People Of Action." We have been successful in showing the world that COVID-19 did not stop Rotary and its members from serving their communities and the world.
May is Youth Services Month on the Rotary calendar. As we all know, most of our youth service programs have been suspended due to the pandemic. The Rotary International Board has decided to suspend in-person exchanges through June 2022. Our Interact program is still functioning, and hopefully RYLA will begin again in the late summer/early fall. A quote from RI President Holger Knaack – “Our ability to meet in person is limited now, but we know that Rotary Opens Opportunities, always. Now is the time to get ready, so that when the pandemic is behind us, Rotary’s exchange programs will come back stronger than before, serving a world that is yearning to reconnect."
Clubs are continuing virtual meetings. It is so important now to make sure all club members can still be included at meetings, and also to be able to invite Rotarians from around the world to join your meeting.
Please plan to attend the virtual District Conference on Saturday, May 15th. It’s your opportunity to see your fellow district members. I look forward to seeing you all then. Our usual “day of service” as part of the district conference will be a number of Regional Food Bank drive-thru food distributions, held throughout the region throughout May and June so many can participate. Volunteers are always welcome to join in service projects!
