POLIO PLUS BREAKING NEWS – JOIN THE 5450 POLIO PLUS SOCIETY

We would like to give a huge Thank You to the clubs recognizing World Polio Day! From Ice Bucket challenges, Happy Bucks giving, outright donations, coloring your hair, or skydiving, your efforts will help thousands of children become immunized.

The District Polio Committee wants to thank all the Rotary Clubs of District 5450 who held some event recognizing World Polio Day (even if it didn’t happen exactly on October 24)!  Our speakers’ bureau had more requests than ever before for speakers; directly or indirectly we participated in over 10 clubs’ polio-related events. We are at Zero Wild Cases so far in the past 9 months!

Reaching that ZERO goal requires the continued dedication of all Rotarians and the necessary funds to keep up the difficult work.  The District Polio Committee has set an “aspirational” goal of each club donating an amount equal to or greater than $50/member to Polio Plus/End Polio this year and every year until the world is declared POLIO FREE. BUT WAIT – WE HAVE A great opportunity for you to do good in the world by becoming a member of the 5450 POLIO PLUS SOCIETY.

It’s easy to become a member. All you need to do is complete the PolioPlus Society pledge form, scan, and send it to our Polio Plus Committee: Marny Eulberg, District PolioPlus Chair, at marnyeul@me.com

As a member of the Society, you pledge to donate a minimum of $100 each year until the world is certified polio-free by the World Health Organization. Rotarians and their friends who join the Society will be honored with a special pin, certificate, and an “End Polio Now” bracelet which will be presented at your Club meeting.

Of course, all donations will be matched 2 to 1 by the Gates Foundation making this an even better opportunity, as well as receiving Paul Harris Credit for your donation. The easiest way to donate is to go to https://www.endpolio.org/donate or by “hovering” over the QR code on the bottom of the Pledge form with your smartphone’s camera.

You can then:
  • Make a one-time donation of $100 (or more) with your credit card by clicking on the “One-time donation” button and choosing the appropriate amount from the boxes below.
  • The other choice is what we call the “easy” way to become a PolioPlus Society member by utilizing the monthly payment option. Click the “Recurring Donation” button. For frequency choose “monthly” and for amount choose “other” and enter $10 in the “enter other amount” box.
  • If you wish to donate more, or quarterly or annually instead, you have those choices as well. (To donate online, make sure you have registered on rotary.org for a My Rotary account for you and your club to receive proper credit. Signing up is quick and easy). You can also donate by writing a check to “The Rotary Foundation” with “PolioPlus” in the memo section and submitting it to your club’s Foundation Chair.
Help Rotarians reach every last child and achieve our vision of a polio-free world.
