Enthusiasm & Energy to Eradicate Polio Continue in District 5450!

Have you heard of Rotary's Paul Harris Society? Now come the Polio Plus Society! A great way to support ongoing polio and its plus: Eradication across the world with a dedicated Rotarian commitment.

The Paul Harris Society has been part of Rotary since the honor was established in 1957 to show appreciation for contributions that support our Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved Foundation grant. People who sign up for the Paul Harris Society pledge to give $1,000 per year to Rotary International’s Annual Fund or Polio Plus as long as able.

Now District 5450 has a new similar program with a smaller commitment from its members called the Polio Plus Society. The requirements are that each person interested in joining the Polio Plus Society sign a pledge/commitment letter that states they agree to give at least $100 to Polio Plus/End Polio Now every year until the world is declared “polio-free” and to then make the first donation of at least $100. This can be done as a single one-time annual donation or by signing up to have at least $10 per month donated through Rotary Direct.

A copy of the flyer that describes the program and has the QR code that will take a donor directly to the End Polio Now/Polio Plus donation site can be downloaded from the rotary5450.org/foundation website page.

Once the signed pledge letter and proof of a qualifying donation are submitted to District 5450 Polio Committee chairperson, Dr. Marny Eulberg, the donor will be sent a Polio Plus Society pin, an End Polio Now bracelet, and a certificate that could be framed. The Rotarian’s club president will be notified so that the new Polio Plus Society member can be recognized at a club meeting.

As District 5450 Foundation Chair, Dave Willman, exclaimed when he became a Polio Plus Society member for his birthday last year:
“There is no greater birthday gift than to see the world’s children and adults have the most opportunities ahead of them, and with polio eradication getting so close to happening with less than 1% to go, I was so happy to hear of this Society opportunity to renew my annual commitment to continue the elimination of this paralyzing disease from our planet.”
