Is war an inevitable part of human nature or can it be prevented or minimized? Since the end of the cold war the nature of war has changed as has the number of wars, and casualties because of war. We will look at the various reasons for this shift including end of the colonial period, end of the cold war, globalization, and actions taken by the international community. We will look at successes, failures, and lessons learned in the areas of war prevention, non-violent civil resistance, conflict resolution, peacemaking, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding.
