DG BOB KEMP'S MONTHLY MESSAGE

MAY: IT'S WILDFIRE SEASON

Wildfires bring huge risks to so many in the mountain communities. DG Bob visited the Evergreen Rotary Wildfire Ready Firetruck - the project aims to educate the community about what they can do to increase wildfire readiness.

Identifying needs in communities, and then acting to do something about those needs is what Rotary service is all about.

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

The Rotary Foundation Vision: “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and ourselves.” Adopted by the Board and Trustees in June 2017, this vision statement reflects the impact Rotary aspires to have on the world and our members. BOUNCING INTO SPRING! Now is the time to start planting seeds and sowing your Rotary #PeopleofAction garden.
  1. Start with a plan of what each of us can plant in our communities now. Is it a service project? Mentorship of our youth? Supporting awareness of vaccine hesitancy?
  2. Sow your garden with a community assessment, gathering resources, engaging your club and community members for growth awaiting possible reward.
  3. Harvest your garden – Focus on how your efforts helped community agencies, youth, or educated the public to fund safe, effective ways for our community to recover. Tell everyone about your successful harvest.
  4. Plan your garden for the next season with new club members, friendships, and fellowship. Keep sharing with each other and we will all get through together.

ROTARY DIRECT (Recurring Giving) - The Annual Fund is the primary source of funding for all Foundation activities. Support our efforts year-round by making a recurring gift. You choose how often and how much you want to give—it's a simple and secure way to make a big impact. A monthly, quarterly, or annual gift option is available for all online contributions. You can enroll at my.rotary.org/rotary-direct.

PEACE FELLOWS SCHOLARS UPDATE This year’s application process is underway, and we have heard from two prior years' applicants that are going to re-apply this year. The Peace Scholars committee is visiting with them regarding how their continued experience since their last application has improved their chances of success. To learn more about Peace Center #7, check out https://www.rotary.org/en/rotary-establishes-peace-center-makerere-university

The Otto and Fran Walter Foundation signed an agreement with the Rotary Foundation pledging a sum of $15.5m to set up a Peace Center in the Middle East called the Otto & Fran Walter Rotary Peace Center by 2025. The Middle East is still the world’s most peace-challenged region and the potential to do good is great!

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION UPDATE - Did you know about one-third of Rotary Foundation gifts are made in May and June annually! Your gift to the Annual Fund helps Rotary clubs take action today to create positive change in communities at home and around the world. Your contributions help us strengthen peace efforts, provide clean water and sanitation, support education, grow local economies, save mothers and children, and fight disease.

The Every Rotarian Every Year initiative asks every Rotarian to support The Rotary Foundation every year. In addition to contributing to the Annual Fund regularly, members are encouraged to get involved in a Foundation project or program.

Giving today to the Annual Fund Share will help fulfill our project resource pipeline down the line. Website www.rotary.org/donate is the easiest way to give today!
