February is Peace & Conflict Prevention and Resolution Month

In 1945 Rotary was invited to serve as a consultant to help develop the charter for the United Nations, and still serves as a consultant to the UN today. Rotary's six areas of focus all strive to make the world a more peaceful place.

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

END OF A DECADE!

As we start a new decade, hard to believe how time flies, we reflect to all the outstanding Rotary service and projects including our Rotarians giving of their multiple resources over the past ten years. I would like to thank all our 5450 Rotarians and how you pushed through to give and support the Rotary Foundation over the past decade.

Our hope for this new decade is that The Rotary Foundation earns your continued trust for your generosity for all 5450 Rotarians and TRF becomes your number one giving choice, every year, all decade long.

Enthusiasm and energy to eradicate polio continues in District 5450!

Donations during The Future of Rotary Dinner, an update on polio eradication, and the Gates Foundation announcement to continue matching funds raised through Rotary 2:1 through 2024!

Please come see the Rotary Foundation and Polio Plus district team at our tables at the upcoming High Country PETS Feb. 28-March 1, and the State of the State event on March 5th for all of the latest and greatest information and to schedule a formal club presentation.

This month, we want to highlight one unique aspect of Polio and Polio Eradication: cVDPV. Circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV), which occurs when a rare genetic mutation of the live, weakened virus in the oral polio vaccine is shed in the feces of a recently vaccinated person, and the local sanitation system is insufficient to prevent community contamination.

Endpolionow.org is a great resource to continue to monitor daily progress of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

The 2018-19 Annual Report from Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation offers an online look about The Rotary Foundations latest accomplishments in the 2019 annual report, showing all the ways that Rotary is influencing the lives of millions of people around the world. https://www.rotary.org/en/annual-report-2019

TRF TRIVIA: Finally, every month, we will have a little trivia and this month’s prize for the 6th email received from a District 5450 Rotarian with the answer will receive a ROTARY FUN GIFT (VALUE OF $20.00) sent to your address.

THE FEBRUARY 2020 QUESTION: What was the first Rotary club in the world to donate to The Rotary Foundation?
