DG Bob reminds us that our fellow Rotarians and their neighbors have been greatly impacted by the Colorado Wildfires. Many of you have already given your support - if you are able please Donate Now to the Colorado Wildfire Relief Fund. The District's Natural Disaster Relief Committee will be working with local Rotarians to determine how best to distribute the funds.
 
With the holidays coming, many in the community need help. The District is holding a Rotary Day of Service on December 5 - all clubs are encouraged to DO SOMETHING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The District surpassed our October polio giving goal of $40,000, and combined with the other five High Country PETS districts, the event raised close to $100,000! COLORADO WILDFIRE DISASTER RELIEF FUND: The Natural Disaster Response Committee is currently working with local Rotarians and contacts in Grand Lake and other effected areas to determine how best to distribute donated funds. The fires are still active, so it will take some time before needs assessments can be completed. Donations can be made online or you can mail a check to Rotary District 5450, Subject Line: Colorado Fires, 5103 Dvorak Circle, Frederick CO 80504. FRIENDLINESS, TOLERANCE, AND USEFULNESS - The Role of Rotary in Promoting Democratic Principles Through Peacebuilding. It is my sincere belief that Rotarians now stand in a position to be the forerunner of a positive change. Rotary is “something good in America”. S. OREGON FIRE RELIEF UPDATE - The United Rotary Clubs of Southern Oregon previously distributed $50,000 in tools to sole proprietors who had lost tools in the Almeda or South Obenchain fires that began on Sept. 8.  Now armed with $117,000, the program is being expanded - called the Back to Work Project - to include small businesses with employees. Individuals and small businesses are eligible to receive up to $5,000 in tools or equipment. Rotary District 5450 sent $5,000 in donations to help with this program. The Returning Peace Corps Volunteers Satellite of Denver LoDo Rotary Club is working on a project, together with the Aurora and Denver Southeast clubs, to benefit the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless to Welcome Veterans Home. Renaissance Veterans Apartments is opening this winter on the Fitzsimons campus specifically for veterans currently experiencing homelessness, and the three Rotary clubs have reached out to help furnish it.  Click here to read how you can help. 

Ellen Moore has been named Boulder Rotary's 2020 recipient of the Jim Swaeby Peace Award. This award recognizes a person for outstanding achievement consistent with the ideals of Rotary that are “The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world of fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.” Read more...

Polio Plus Breaking News - Join the D5450 Polio Plus Society! The District Polio Committee wants to thank all the Rotary Clubs of District 5450 who held some event recognizing World Polio Day (even if it didn’t happen exactly on October 24)!  Our speakers’ bureau had more requests than ever before for speakers. Rotary International continues its commitment to keep its promise to see a world free of the poliovirus and preventing ANY AND ALL cases of paralysis caused by polio! WE HAVE A great opportunity for you to do good in the world by becoming a member of the D5450 POLIO PLUS SOCIETY.  Read more...

SCHOLARS CORNER: We have multiple scholarship applicants now for next year’s Rotary Scholars program from District 5450 and will be interviewed during November for the selection of one scholar for the next Rotary year, 2021-2022. We are looking forward to selecting a highly qualified deserving applicant. Your donations to The Rotary Foundation support our scholars every year. We have multiple alumni from this program from our district doing good in the world in and out of Rotary.
