DG SANDY MORTENSEN'S MONTHLY MESSAGE

The leaves are changing colors anticipating winter, but they are still full of energy. Rotarians throughout our District are also full of energy, brilliance, with a few colorful characters. The are many Rotarians in waiting in our communities - wanting to help other - you need to invite them to join you!

THE DISTRICT IS HERE FOR YOU
ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE VISIT ROTARY PEAK

Sunday was a stunning day to welcome nine Rotary Youth Exchange students to the wonders of the Colorado mountains. Assembling at the top of Loveland Pass at 8:30AM, Jim Brook, Lieutenant Governor (Summit County), welcomed the students and Rotarian friends and family. After making certain that everyone understood the “rules of the trail” for hiking through alpine tundra, off they went, or rather scampered, up the trail which follows the Continental Divide all the way to “Rotary Peak”. CLUB CONNECTIONS

LITTLETON ROTARY SUPPORTS ACCESSIBLE BUS

Littleton Rotary Club and the Arapahoe Sherriff's Department partnered in 2007 to purchase a 14-passenger accessible bus for the South Suburban Parks and Recreation. Recently updated with the Littleton Rotary Club logo, the bus is used to transport those with limited mobility for trips with the STAR program (South Suburban Therapeutic Adaptive Recreation) to attend museum field trips, sports events, the new Seaquest aquarium and other Denver-area events. For more information contact David Lewis, Littleton Rotary, 720-232-3480 or paperdavid@yahoo.com

RED-TAILED HAWK PARK PROJECT

Aurora Rotary Club is partnering with the City of Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) to build a playground that can meet the needs of all children regardless of physical, social or cognitive ability. The idea came about last October when Make-a-Wish Foundation contact PROS about a wish they received from a 6-year old boy who lives near Red-Tailed Hawk park. PROS, with the addition of the Rotary Club of Aurora’s commitment and pledge from the Aurora Rotary Foundation of a minimum of $100,000, are now able to apply for an Arapahoe County Open Space grant. Click Here to learn more about this partnership, and the donation program supporting the project.

WESTMINSTER 7:10 NEEDS COMPUTER MONITORS!

We desperately need monitors to meet this year’s need to distribute computers to kids in our neighborhood schools. This 19 year old program has only been possible through the generosity of businesses that donate their used equipment. Members - please ask if your companies have any flat screen monitors, or computers 13 or better that they would donate.

Kids in our local schools speak 39 different languages and over 80% of the kids qualify for free and reduced lunch so the need it great.  To date we’ve distributed over 9.500 computers and if we can get enough monitors we expect to hit the 10,000 mark this school year! Call Joe Duncan 303-907-8271 with any questions.

CASTLE ROCK ROTARY SUPPORTS SHELTER BOX

Shelter Box, started by a local Rotary club, has expanded to a world-wide disaster relief organization which supplies items to help victims of natural disaster stabilize their lives. Castle Rock Rotary has supported the project for years, and recently presented the program with a $3,000 check. CLICK HERE for more information.
