A message from your Rotary District 5950 District Governor, Sharon Bloodworth:
District Governor - Best Job in the Universe

Visiting every club as your District Governor has been a pleasure and a privilege. If you asked me to do this job for life, I would accept in a heartbeat. We have the best District in the world, and it has been an absolute joy representing you. We are in the top 5% in the world for fundraising, yes in the world!!! Our Rotarians are extraordinarily generous. Minnesota Rotarians say YES to volunteering. Your clubs are active and exciting and are a thrill to visit. Our district is growing beautifully this year, and we are not taking the foot off the membership pedal. The difference for me from a good day to a spectacular day is a day that included a Rotary visit. You inspire me to work even harder. Six months down, six months to go. Oh, how I wish time would slow down!

Top twelve DG memories of 2024:
  1. Lights going out in the middle of my DG talk to St Cloud Rotary. I carried on in the dark, I could not tell if they were sleeping or not!
  2. Our District won big at Zone 2024 for fundraising. We felt like that movie that wins every prize. It was an amazing Zone.
  3. Asking the DG line to dress up like the Wizard of Oz. They are the best sports ever.
  4. My butcher at Lunds & Byerly’s telling me he had missed seeing me. I told him that Rotary had fed me morning and lunch for three months! He is happy to have me back.
  5. Helping Maple Grove’s president trick his club into thinking that the new Rotary International moniker for President was Grand Poohbah and we now had to wear Vikings helmets. I think more people would apply for the position if we adopted that!
  6. Excelsior’s club all waving a wand to welcome me to the podium. I do not know where they had hidden them. It was such a lovely surprise. I cried!
  7. Discovering Cokato-Dassel’s food is cooked by one of the members. It was excellent and we had ice cream cake for dessert because it was her birthday. Best food experience at a club.
  8. Minnewaska Club – the host with the most. Their President asked me to arrive early so he could give me a tour of his city. It gave me a much better perspective of their club’s opportunity in the community. Class act!
  9. Shakopee – pretty much every department head city official is in the club, so if there is a city crisis – just call your Rotary Club!
  10. Rotary Club 9 – having the tearful opportunity to thank my club for making me who I am today. They taught me public speaking, leadership skills and opened the community to me. It is so great to represent my club.
  11. Taking 300 Rotarians to my favorite place on earth – the Minnesota State Fair! The food waste sorting was memorable on so many levels.
  12. Singing Last Christmas on Prince’s stage at the Edina Noon Purple gala. What a night. I am still talking about it. I think I will still be talking about it when I am 98 years old.

Thank you for being the best District ever!! And thank you to the amazing Presidents and District leadership team for making this a truly spectacular year.
