Posted by Lori Anne Jones - Zone 28 & 32 DEI Resource Chair –2021/22
As we turn our minds to the holidays, we also see the new year on the horizon and thoughts start to stir about what that year has in store for us and what plans we should make.

One of the key new year planning elements for Zones 28 and 32 is the creation of the Zone DEI Committee.  We have done some work over the summer and fall with respect to training for leadership and reaching out to the current District DEI chairs, but now it’s time to start formalizing our work and get a committee in place and create a critical mass around this work that will result in meaningful change across the Zone.
Zone 28/32 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
Zone 28/32 values the diversity of our members and clubs and the unique qualities of each individual.  The mandate of the DEI Committee is to:
  • contribute to the implementation of the RI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commitment Statement
  • support Districts within both Zones 28 and 32 grow and better reflect the communities we serve
  • support Clubs to be inclusive of all identities
  • Provide diversity, equity and inclusion education in cooperation with the District Governor and district training committee.
  • Help to create frameworks to support evaluation Zone policies and guidelines using a diversity, equity and inclusion lens and recommend changes to increase the diversity, equity and inclusion of those policies and guidelines. There are actually no Zone policies outside of RI’s Perhaps District?
  • Work with district leadership and DEI chairs to create a welcoming culture across the Zone and respective district within Zones 28 and 32.
We are currently seeking Rotarians to work with the three Zone DEI chairs, Lori Anne Jones, Susan Davidson, and Kate Sims, on the newly formed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEI).  It is a three-year term. The goal is a committee of 6-8 members.

We are seeking individuals who have:
  • Experience leading diversity, equity, and inclusion activities/initiatives.
  • Professional diversity, equity, and inclusion experience or education.
  • Authentic diversity, equity, and inclusion experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment as a change-agent.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
Interested Rotarians/Rotaractors are invited to submit their interest in writing maximum one page outlining their relevant experience and compelling reason why you want to be part of this committee to Lori Anne Jones latjones@outlook.com by December 17, 2021.
