Union City was honored to have the fourth Governor from their club serve as Governor this year, and it was Governor George Berdolt. The Rotary International President was Kiyoshi Togaghasahi, from Tokyo, Japan, and the International theme was "Participation" which Governor George, supported by his Union City Club, did in a big way. The International Convention was held in Honolulu, Hawaii this year and both Governor George and PDG Bill Fiedler attended it.

Activities included a Leadership forum held at the Neptune Restaurant in Paramus,

The annual District President's Ball held at the Westmont Country Club, and the annual District Football Game to see the Giants and Eagles playa preseason game at Princeton, The highlight of the year, however, was the District Conference held at the King's Inn at Freeport in the Bahamas. It was a most colorful event.

Governor George was ably assisted in his year by Walter Miller as his Chief of staff, Tom Venino as his Chief Governor's Rep, Barry Mayer as his District Conference chairman, and a very active President of his home club, Harold Azmelian.

A Group Study Exchange was approved by Rotary International with District #278 in Australia and the planning for the exchange commenced. The Union City Club continued its very active support of the Rotary Foundation and the club went from a 200 percent level to a 400 per cent level. This motivated increased activity in the District.

A series of Interclub meetings were held in the District this year and the Rivervale Club was chartered and presented its charter by Governor George. Project Haiti was supported again on a District level as an International project. The activities listed above along with an active Interact year made Governor George's year a very busy year.
