Paramus Rotary Club
The Rotary International President of that year was Harold T. Thomas of Auchland, New Zealand, and Governor Tom included in his travels a visit to President Harold's home country. Many people expressed the belief that Governor Tom with his active pursuit of Rotary events throughout the world was a potential Director of Rotary International and also a potential President of Rotary International.
Governor Tom moved his Conference location from Asbury Park, where many of the earlier Conferences had been held to a new location at Atlantic City. This was considered at the time as a major innovation. The International convention was held in Miami, Florida.
Governors did not have Reps or aides at this time, and the District officers had to playa very active role assisting the Governor. The first use of Reps occurred in 1963-64 during the year that Walter Steinman served as Governor.
Governor Tom arranged for a number of interclub meetings during his year to include an interclub meeting with members of the Secaucus, Union City and Paramus Clubs in attendance.
One of the innovations for the year occurred when Governor Tom hosted the District Institute and Assembly at the Continental and had PDG Sam Kessinger of Ridgewood give an address on the history of Rotary International. PDG Sam was a widely recognized public speaker and those Rotarians that attended had an unforgettable experience. It was an exciting Rotary year with a very innovational leader.
