Paramus Rotary Club
Under an International theme of "Let Us Build Bridges of Friendship Throughout the World" by the Rotary International President of that year, Hiroji Mukasa of Japan, Governor Murray commenced his year in the humble and quiet way he had served Rotary from the time he became a member of the Paramus Club. Surrounding himself with a most knowledgeable and dedicated staff led by Art Fowler, Al Loukas, John Hartman, and Harold Clark, Murray planned and led the District in a very active year of activities and service.
The activities included a District theater party at the Westchester Theater, A District picnic at the Van Saun Park in Paramus, the hosting by our District of the New Jersey Vocational Assembly at Whippany, the President's Ball, the District Interclub meeting, sponsored by the Fair Lawn Club in Paramus, and a District night at the Races at the Meadow lands Race Track.
The International Convention in 1983 was held at Toronto, Canada, and the District Conference was held at the Hershey Lodge at Hershey, Pennsylvania as a family emphasized Conference at a location in the United States after a number of Conferences were held in distant overseas locations. Murray received great support from his Paramus Club along with support from the District at large for his Conference.
Murray as a history buff did the research that allowed for the publishing in his directory the list of Governors that have served our District area as far back as 1915 under the different District numbers assigned at the times noted. This research by Gov. Murray has served as the basis for the material we have listed earlier in this booklet on the history of the District prior to 1957.
