A lifelong resident of Hudson and Bergen counties, Niurka “Nikki” Mederos is the Director of the External Affairs/Outreach Community at Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, NJ. During her 35-year tenure at the medical facility, Ms. Mederos has worked within local communities to promote the hospital’s services, build community partnerships and provide healthcare outreach programs to local residents. Additionally, she has organized dozens of community health fairs and health screenings to connect with thousands of members from the community.
 
Receiving her MBA with a dual concentration in the Marketing and Health Care Management field, from Saint Peter’s University, she served as President of their Alumni Board, now their Regent Board, as well as an adjunct professor. Nikki joined the North Hudson Rotary Club in 2010, after being well-versed by another Rotarian of the magnificent work that the “Gift of Life” brings to children around the world. She served as club President from 2012 - 2014; receiving Presidential Citations for both terms and becoming a Walter D. Head Foundation recipient in 2014. During her Presidential terms, several noteworthy events were originated by the North Hudson Club, such as the “Pink Heels and Pink Ties” – fight against Breast Cancer Fundraiser and the “Pets Fair Event” which provides free rabies vaccines to our furry friends. She was honored by her club, the North Hudson Rotary Club for outreach services in the fight against breast cancer. Nikki continued her initiatives on a district level, serving as an Assistant Governor for our district, a Walter D. Head Foundation Committee Trustee, and the Rotary Leadership Institute Site Chair for District 7490. Nikki completed all her RLI courses and is currently a faculty member for the Rotary Leadership Institute. Her past credits also involve serving on the President’s Ball Committee for 2015 and 2016; Halloween against Hunger 2015 and organizing Health and Wellness Fairs for the North Hudson Rotary Club and serving as the District Secretary.
In the realm of achievements for her work in the community, she received an official proclamation as one of "Union City's Best" by Senator Brian P. Stack and the Board of Commissioners for her achievements in the field of health care and for helping local residents in need of adequate health care and education.  Her numerous recognitions include United Way of Hudson County honoring Nikki with      the “Congresswoman Mary T. Norton Memorial Award” for outstanding community service in Hudson County.  Honored and inducted to the National Association of Cuban American Women, receiving the “Dr. Elena Mederos” (no relation) award for outstanding quality healthcare in the community.  In 2016, Nikki was honored by the Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce as one of the leading women in business. Named Cuban Woman of the Year for 2017 by a local newspaper and most recently honored by Save Latin America as the Cuban Community Leader for her dedication and commitment to the Hispanic Community.
Aside from her professional and community service career, Nikki’s supportive husband of 36 years and two children enrich her personal life. Her husband, Manuel “Manny” is the Assistant Director of Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center’s Physical Plant division. Nikki’s eldest son, Manny Jr., is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York in the Cartooning field and is currently working for Disney/Pixar Productions in Los Angeles; her youngest son, Nicholas, also a graduate of Saint Peter’s University and now works for the Archdiocese of New York. Having her family’s love and support has always been the encouraging influence in her very busy and active life.
