Taking a line from the International theme of Rotary International President Bill Skelton of Virginia, USA of "Share Rotary - Serve People" Governor Harvey added to the theme in his directory message for District Rotarians "That some stand by and witness history, but let us in District #749, participate, contribute, and lead .... "

Governor Harvey had as his key staff members, Bob Benowitz as his Secretary, John Reynolds as his Treasurer, and Art Scialla as his Chief Rep. 

District activities for the year included the New Jersey Vocational Assembly, held at the Pines Manor in Edison, N. J. and the President's Ball was held at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany, N. J. The District Conference was held in beautiful Freeport in the Bahamas, and was a most colorful event with Joe Gibbs and John Hartman serving as the co-chairmen for the Conference.

The District continued during the year its support of the Rotary Foundation and the Walter Head Foundation in addition to having an active youth activities program.

The International Convention was held in Birmingham, England, with one unforgettable event the marching down of the field of over one hundred bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace".

Governor Harvey, who moved to Florida a number of years ago Reports that Mitzi and he are greatly enjoying their retirement in the sunshine state. He also has noted that what he considers as the highlight of his year was the project he initiated to help the victims of the violent floods that occurred in our District, mainly in the Passaic County area. All of the clubs in our District responded to Governor Harvey's request for help and over $65,000 was raised in a short period of time in the true spirit of the theme for the year "Share Rotary and Serve People"
