"Let's Take a New Look" was the International theme this year and Roy Hickman from Alabama, USA was the Rotary International President. Governor Brad as a top executive at the Thomas J. Lipton Tea Company was the right person to take a fresh look as he emphasized in his directory write up that it was time for fresh approaches and renewed vigor in our rotary activities.

Governor Brad's key staff members were Carmine Torsiello as his Secretary, Bob Hardie as his Treasurer, and John Honohan as his Chief Rep. District activities included the annual District football game at West Point between Army and Air Force, the New York Vocational Assembly at the Waldorf Astoria, and the Interclub Luncheon sponsored by the Fair Lawn Club at the Neptune Inn in Paramus.

The President's Ball was held at the Tarnmybrook Country Club and the District Conference was held in Pennsylvania.

The International Convention was held in picturesque Lausanne, Switzerland in a beautiful location on Lake Geneva. The floral displays at the convention center alone were a reason to justify one's attendance at the convention. Many Rotarians took advantage of the location for extended trips to other locations in Europe before and after the convention. The District was actively using the International House at Teaneck at this time, both for the storage of District records and for small District committee meetings. The college was also using the facility for the housing and for small events for foreign students enrolled at the college.

Emphasis in the District continued on the Rotary Foundation, the Walter Head Foundation and the youth activities programs. Under Governor Brad's leadership, the first Governor's Newsletter was provided for every member of the District. Prior to this time copies were provided only for the club President and the club Secretary, and to the staff members of the District. Since the newsletter was professionally published, Governor Brad rationalized that the cost of printing 2000 copies rather than 150 was not a great expense after the initial setting up costs. According to Ken Gold, who played a big part in assembling this information, Governor's Brad (Englewood Cliff Club) was a topplevel executive of the Lipton Company.
