Hurricane Harvey’s devastation in Texas emphasizes the importance of Rotarian’s commitment to support our disaster relief efforts. Our support of Shelter Box is especially important at this time. Shelter Box Response teams are already on the ground in Houston in order to assess the damage and plan the response. Our Past District Governor Louis Turpin is preparing to leave for Texas to join them. The destruction wrought by this epic storm to America’s fourth largest city will effect hundreds of thousands of our fellow Americans for the weeks and months ahead. Shelter Box’s readiness to respond in times of need depends on their corps of volunteers, many of whom are Rotarians and our financial support, much of it also from Rotarians. It is at times like these that our support is crucial.

Shelter Boxes and their corps of trained volunteers need to be ready to be deployed at short notice to meet the needs of families who have lost everything in natural disasters and man-made crises. Please be generous to your neighbors in their time of need by supporting Shelter Box.

I am attaching a communication from our Past District Governor Louis Turpin that summarizes Shelter Box’s efforts in Houston.

Some other news that I would like to pass along:

Rotary Day at the UN

Unfortunately for U.S. residents, Rotary Day at the UN has been moved to Geneva, Switzerland this year. It will be held on November 10 & 11, 2017. This was done in order to broaden participation by Rotarians and Interactors in other geographic areas and to enhance public awareness of Rotary's unique relationship with the UN. Please pass this information along to your Interact clubs as well.

Please continue to keep those affected by Hurricane Harvey, as well as all the people responding to the call to help, including many of our own District 7210 members, in your thoughts.
