“Rotary connects the world”

It is indeed be an honour and privilege to serve as your District Governor (DG) for 2019-2020.

Over the past 3 years of preparing and planning for taking on this role, I have come to appreciate just how strong and dynamic our District truly is – from our District Governor string, executive, District Advisory Committee through to our clubs (Rotary, Rotaract, Interact).

Rotary International (RI) President Mark Maloney’s theme for the year “Rotary Connects The World” is very fitting for me on a personal level. I am a strong supporter of our district and clubs connecting to – work on service projects at home and around the world, collaborate on fundraising initiatives, attend special functions or participate in fellowship events. Rotary is built on connections and our ability to connect us remains unique – and unrivalled.

In keeping with this year’s theme, I am implementing a different format for club visits and also planning on leading adhoc “District volunteer teams” to participate hands-on in club activities across the district.

Shaping Rotary’s future lies in our clubs and adapting to today’s changing realities. While our clubs remain the core of the Rotary experience, we can now be far more creative and flexible in deciding what a club can be, how it can meet and even what can be considered a Rotary meeting. Rotary can and should be an experience that complements our families and personal lives – not compete with them.

In place of the traditional DG’s Club Achievement Recognition award this year, we are taking a different approach - Club's "Moving the Needle" 2019-2020. Each club has been asked to establish their own goals, targets, etc. “What does your club want to achieve over the Rotary year?” At the end of the year, we will celebrate your club’s achievements with you.

To quote RI President Maloney, “In 2019-2020, it will be our challenge to strengthen the many ways that Rotary Connects the World, building the connections that allow talented, thoughtful, and generous people to unite and take meaningful action through Rotary service.”

I am very much looking forward to connecting with you and your club during our year together!

Yours in Rotary,

Bill Hagborg
