DISTRICT CONFERENCE 2019

Yet another conference is now in the books and planning is well underway for Rosseau 2020.

Our district has a long-standing tradition of putting on outstanding conferences, each one just a little bit different from the one before. I am sure those who came to Deerhurst found this to be the case, and in particular with our "District Poutine Pints & Plaid Shindig" on Saturday night - a truly Canadian dress-down evening of fun and fellowship. Freedom Train did an amazing job of engaging the Youth Exchange students.

Our Rotary theme for this year is "Rotary connects the world" and for me that starts here at home in our district as we collaborate on projects, fundraisers - and event like our conferences.

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of North Muskoka, recipients of the Paul Harris bust for the next year, with the highest club participation of 44%. And to Yves Morrissette, President of the Hearst club, who won the Hub Crawl Draw - a one-night stay for 2 at Deerhurst with breakfast and a round of golf, courtesy of the resort.

Check out all the conference photos (courtesy of Marc Durocher, Matheson Rotary club) - here. I have also posted the link along with a conference summary in the DG's Corner.

District Governor 2019-2020
A Foundation to build on

We know that The Rotary Foundation is helping Rotarians do good in the world, but it can be difficult to convey the full scope of its work. So the Foundation has put together some  figures from the past five years — 2014-15 through 2018-19 — to tell the story of the generosity of Rotarians and the good work that the Foundation supports.

Past District Governor Susan Davidson announced the club recipients of the 2018-2019 Foundation Awards as part of the annual recognition and awards presentation held during the 2019 District Conference.

World Polio Day 2019 - Please don't forget to let DG Bill know what your club has done, or still planning to do, to celebrate the day.
Bryn and Randy Styles Distinguished Peace Award - 2019 Recipient Steve Wallace from the Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach and Area

A multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Paul Harris Society member, member of the Bequest Society and Past President, Steve is well known for leading the successful humanitarian missions to the Dominican Republic - HHART (Hispaniola Humanitarian Assistance and Relief Team).

Message originally distributed by Alison Durtnall, District Chair of New Generations, encouraging clubs to consider adding the Youth Exchange Program to their club if not already doing so. District Conference goers certainly saw first-hand just how amazing and inspiring this year's students are.
