The focus of this year's online event was on the historic achievement in polio eradication: Africa being declared free of the wild poliovirus.
In turn, clubs across District 7010 carried out a wide variety of events in support of the continued effort by Rotary and its partners to completely eradicate the disease from the 2 remaining countries - Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Just to highlight one club, the Collingwood-South Georgian Bay club organized 4 different options for their members - 50/50 draw tickets for a pot worth $1400; and to sweeten the pot tickets for baked goods draw (featuring homemade jam, poppy seed loaf, expresso brownies); a hike on the 24th of sections of the Georgian Trail, the Bruce trail and the many trails in the community in groups of 6 or less; and finally at 4 pm on the 24th a Zoom meeting, which included watching a few of the great polio videos and did the draw for all the sweet treats and 50/50 pot. A total of $2300 was raised, and in addition a number of members donated directly to The Rotary Foundation.
Stomp, Stomp, StompDistrict Governor Lynne Chant was able to get her red “polio stomping boots” on and attend two club events - the Barrie-Huronia club's raising of the “End Polio Now” flag over their city hall on October 23rd, followed by the Peterborough club's walk "so that others can walk" on the 24th along the Rotary Trail.
DG Lynne was extremely pleased to see so many of our clubs in the District carry out some event to celebrate the occasion.
