World Affairs Conference
FALL 2015

District 6540 – Across Northern Indiana

Global Health: Is there a shot for that?

The fall 2015 Rotary World Affairs Conference on epidemics, pandemics, immunizations and everything in between will engage high school students across northern Indiana in discussions with experts and peers about important global issues.

Presentations include a national expert from the Centers for Disease Control and Rotarians who have participated in Polio Plus inoculations and other world health initiatives. Students will learn about Rotary’s partnership with the Centers for Disease control and hear first-hand about Rotary in action.

With recent HIV outbreaks in southern Indiana, measles at Disneyland, Ebola in Africa, disputes over immunization and Rotary’s model for eradicating polio worldwide, this timely topic is of high interest.
Each of the seven WAC sites will host panels of area health experts and, hopefully, Rotarians who have helped eradicate polio in third-world countries. We’ll ensure that each site has access to the wealth of Rotary world health materials, videos and connections to help students digest the topic and continue the conversation in their homes and schools and with friends.

Individual Rotary clubs are the support system for this outstanding and unique experience for our youth of northern Indiana. Please plan now to bring your local schools to the conference. The fee is $275 to support one school. Many clubs support several schools. The fee for each additional school is $225.

This year, our broadcast headquarters is in downtown Fort Wayne on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Please contact the coordinator of the site nearest your club about sponsoring at least one high school. If you have connections at high schools, please share them with your site coordinator.
