Ray Klinginsmith, a Kirksville legend who once served as the Rotary International president (2010-11), passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the age of 86. Klinginsmith, who stressed service to others, was a mentor to many in the community — a list of people far too long to mention. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Feb. 10, from 4-7 p.m. at the Dukum Inn. All his friends are invited.
The Missouri RYLA Academy (MO RYLA) is a four-day/three-night service leadership academy that introduces Rotary’s “Service Above Self” philosophy.
Rotary clubs have the opportunity to promote the academy and sponsor their local high school students to attend. There is not a cap or limit on the number of participants a club can send. Students are allowed to select their own preferred academy session date, with each session maxed at 100 participants.
We are now 2 months away from this year’s Show Me Rotary Presidents-elect (and Presidents-nominee) Training Seminar (PETS), which is 3/22 and 3/23 at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield, MO (new location this year). The Show Me Rotary Council and our district’s leaders have prepared a great training weekend for everyone to learn and help their clubs grow in impact, reach, engagement, and in their ability to adapt.

The training and homework gave me so much useful and understandable information and it was very interactive. The instructors, with their years of expertise in being Rotary members, provided the information in a way that we understood, and no question was treated as a silly question. The training manual is a very good reference tool that I can go back to when I have a question on how to do something.
By taking the training it has built up my leadership confidence. Also has built up the knowledge base regarding what and who Rotary is, on a local, district and International level. It makes me proud to say I am a Rotarian."
Rotarians from Scotland, Schuyler and Putnam counties met in Memphis on January 31, 2024, to enjoy an evening social activity at the Scotland County Lanes. Rotarians and their many invited guests ate dinner and then enjoyed cake (made & decorated by Schuyler County Rotarian, Linda Blessing) and ice cream to celebrate Scotland County Rotary Club's Charter Member, Dr. Harlo Donelson's, 92nd birthday. Following the meal and birthday celebration, many Rotarians and their guests took to the lanes and bowled well into the evening.

People frequently feel detached from the presence or absence of Peace in society. As if Peace is something over which they have limited influence. However, the concept of Positive Peace can change that perspective because Positive Peace emphasizes and describes “attitudes, structures, and institutions that underpin and sustain peaceful societies. Positive Peace is the presence of something good, like education, sustainable resources, human capital, or a functioning government.”1 In learning about Positive Peace, we begin to see how we can impact and create conditions where Peace can flourish.
It is time again to select a future District Governor of our District 6040. This selection will be for the Governor that serves in the Rotary year 2027-28. Everyone receiving this email has served your Club in numerous capacities. Many of you have also served the District and beyond in various positions. Your club is being invited to submit nominations for District Governor for Rotary year 2027-2028. You, as a Rotarian in good standing, may submit to your Club President and Secretary, the name of a Rotarian in your club who you believe would be willing and qualified to serve as District Governor.
While each year of this service project is great, our 23rd year will be special. Rotary District 6040 will be joined by District 6060 and District 6080 in this year’s collection, and I am extremely excited about this development. Our District 6040 Governor, Randy Steinman, has encouraged the Rotary Clubs throughout the great state of Missouri to join the Shoes for Orphan Souls efforts. District 6060 Governor Valerie Sorensen, and District 6080 Governor Jimmy Standfast, are joining Randy to spread the word as we hope to collect 50,000 pairs of shoes across the state of Missouri this year.
Since 2002, Rotary has awarded Peace Fellowships to leaders with professional work experience in Peace and development. Up to 130 fully funded fellowships are awarded annually for study at one of Rotary's Peace Centers, with 1700 Peace Fellowships awarded to people who work in 140 countries to date. Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops the capacity of peace and development professionals to become effective catalysts for Peace.
Missouri RYLA is seeking qualified candidates for the Executive Administrative Director position that supports RYLA throughout the year. This position is ideal for someone that has great organizational skills, excellent communication skills and a little free time to spend changing the world and building future Rotarians. This is a paid position, offering a stipend of $6,000.00 annually, which will be processed via a 1099 form for tax purposes.
