Rotary International District 5890, comprised of 62 Rotary clubs in the greater Houston metropolitan area and Texas gulf coast, is partnering with Harper Mixon to bring an all-inclusive playground to Houston.
The playground will allow children of all abilities and developmental stages to play in the same space and encourage a nurturing environment for all. Like Rotary, Mixon – who will also be releasing her second song to encourage and inspire children to recognize that each has special gifts and abilities – believes all children should be able to play together.
“As a mom with a son on the Autism spectrum, I know how important it is for all children to be able to laugh and have fun together, embracing differences as strengths,” said Michelle Bohreer, Rotary district governor. “Being part of the creation of a park that will allow children of all physical and neurological differences to swing, slide and play makes my heart overflow with joy.”
Texas based Rotary clubs have partnered in the development of all-accessible playgrounds and parks in Pasadena and Katy, but now, partnering with Mixon, local clubs will create a playground in the heart of Houston.
Rotary District 5890 is currently working with the City of Houston and Harris County to find a location for the park and hopes to collaborate with other organizations and individuals to make the all-accessible park a reality in time for the Rotary International Convention in Houston in early June 2022.

Harper Mixon, a fabulously talented 10-year old girl, believes all children should be able to play together. Harper's mom, Cynthia Hunt Mixon, said they are deeply honored and overjoyed to work with District 5890 on this important project.
On Friday, September 17th, they launched a press release with a song written and performed by Harper, "Work of Art". They were recently in Dallas where Harper sang the National Anthem at the Lee Greenwood Patriot Awards for Helping A Hero.
