Bellaire/Southwest Houston Rotarians will join the Read Across the Globe project on Monday, October 19, as part of a worldwide literacy push to establish a new Guinness World Record™ for reading to the most children within a 24-hour period. Breaking the world record requires, in part, an adult reading to children in groups of no more than 35 for at least 30 minutes at a time. On Read Across the Globe Day, Bellaire/Southwest Rotary club will provide 20+ volunteer readers for students at the Sylvan Rodriguez Elementary School in Southwest Houston.

The literacy event is part of the HISD Literacy Department and the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation / Volunteer Houston Points of Light Project for Read Across the GlobeLiteracy is one of Rotary International’s Six Areas of Focus, which also include Peace / Conflict Prevention, Disease Prevention / Treatment, Water / Sanitation, Maternal / Child Health, and Economic / Community Development.
