Our Rotary District is number 1 in membership in our zone! Our zone is compromised of 10 other district totaling 660 clubs and more than 18,674 Rotarians. Since the beginning of this Rotary year, our district increased membership by 3.02% (2,884 to 2,971).  The good news does not stop at the zone level. We are also in the top 5 districts in North America!

North America is compromised of. 17 districts located in Canada, USA, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Aruba, Netherlands Antilles, and Panama.

Fellow Rotarians of District 5890 through your hard work, dedication and commitment to add 1 new Rotarian to your club, you have already proven what we can do together when we focus on a challenging membership goal. We cannot afford to rest on our laurels. June 30 will be the true litmus test of how strong we finish. We typically see a significant drop in membership during the waning months of our Rotary year (from April 1 to June 30). Last year we lost 116 members. But, not this time! Now is the time to redouble our efforts to again add 1 new member to each club between now and June 30!

Why add 1 new member? Most Rotarians are familiar with our international humanitarian projects like Polio Plus, Clean Water and Books. At this year's district conference we are reminded of the many local service projects making a human print. Smaller clubs like Kingwood and Sharpstown with less than 20 members are doing an amazing job with numerous local service projects.

At the club level we must ask ourselves, "How much more could be done with just 1 additional member?" For example, following is a thank you note received at Sharpstown from a Mentors of Hope 'at-risk' student at Lee High School, assigned to 1 Rotarian:

"Dear Rotary Club of Sharpstown",

Thank you for giving me a great weekend. My father died 3 months ago and I was very, very depressed. But, the experience you gave me at RYLA made things great for me. It was the greatest experience in my life, so far. Thank you."
Martin Castro

To help us reach our goal of 1 additional member per club, we have 2 more district membership meetings left. One this coming Monday, May 3, 2010 @ 7PM. "See location Below" Come learn more on how to add 1 new member to your club. Attending membership meetings you are provided strategy, direction and inspirational clips to help you succeed, like this excerpt from BJ Gallagher's book "The Best Way Out is Always Through:"

    Persist no matter what.
    Endure discomfort.
    Request help.
Steadfastly hold on to your beliefs and values.
    Envision triumph.
    Very consistently keep at it.
    Embrace adversity as your teacher.
    Refuse to give up.

Enjoy and celebrate every tiny bit of progress (1 new member)! As Governor Charlesworth, so eloquently stated in a recent e-mail: Our chant from now through June 30 will be "3,000 plus or bust!"

Let's keep our "eyes on the prize, and P.E.R.S.E.V.E.R.E." with 2,971 members, 1 new member per club will help us reach "3,000 plus!"

Yes, if it is to be, it will take the collective WE and WE can do it! "3,000 plus or bust!"

God Bless you and yours,

Yours in Rotary Service,
