On September 1st, Category 5 Hurricane Dorian tore into the islands of the northern Bahamas with 185-mph sustained winds.  Parts of the island nation were in ruins, thousands of people were displaced and the slow process of rebuilding begun.

Barry Rassin, 2018-2019 President of Rotary International, was instrumental in providing Rotary Foundation Disaster Grants to Rotary District 5890 (Houston area) Rotary clubs following Hurricane Harvey.  Past RI President Barry lives in the Bahamas, so this is our opportunity to help their Rotary clubs rebuild.

We're proud to support them just as Rotarians around the globe sent funds to The Rotary Foundation which was distributed to Rotary clubs after Hurricane Harvey.  Medical care is desperately needed, and we have shipped three forty-foot Medical Clinics to the Bahamas thanks to Texas A&M BUILD, and Medical Bridges.  One will become a Dental Clinic, and another will be a Medical Clinic.

The third mobile unit will be a Surgical Clinic, and when the American College of Surgeons heard about our project, they offered to donate surgical equipment and supplies.  Also, Medical Bridges donated around $200,000 of medical equipment and supplies for all three clinics.
Our District 5890 paid the trucking and ocean freight transportation charges from Houston to the Bahamas at a cost of around $21,000.

The Texas Aggie "BUILD" Medical Clinics, valued at $50,000 each without any medical equipment, are 40-foot long, steel shipping containers that are converted into fully functional medical clinics.  They are outfitted with key essentials such as lighting, electrical outlets, plumbing, flooring, cabinets, air-conditioning, wall-mounted fans, and are powered by diesel generators.  These supplies are donated in-kind or acquired at discounted rates.
OUR CONTAINERS HAVE ARRIVED AND BEING SET-UP AND PREPARED TO PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE
Past RI President Barry has sent us the following photos showing the arrival of our containers in the Bahamas.  Everyone is so very thankful for Rotary District 5890 Rotarians for making this project possible under the amazing leadership of our District Governor Gary Gillen.
