Thank you to everyone that joined us on World Polio Day on October 24th as global health experts and partners share our progress on the road to polio eradication.

We raised $11,000!  Our goal for this event was to make 2021 the biggest year ever for D5890 to bring awareness and raise funds to END POLIO NOW!! A huge thanks to Art Bautista and his Rotary Club of University Area Houston for hosting this event, and to all Rotary clubs in District 5890 that also held a World Polio Day event.

Ending a disease is a massive effort and Rotary and our partners can’t do it alone. Learn how you can join us in our efforts to end polio.

This is is one of the best opportunities to tell the Rotary Polio Story. World Polio Day is a chance for Rotarians across the world to come together to fight polio. There are many ways you could mark the day in 2021. Start planning now!

Dedicate your club meeting to focus on Rotary’s work to end polio that week or hold a community fundraiser.  Partner with your Interactors and Rotaractors for a Purple Pinkie Project!

This is an ideal opportunity to engage with your local community, celebrities and media to remind them about the Rotary Polio Story and how everyone can get involved.

When Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988, there were 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries every year. We’ve made great progress against the disease since then.

Today, polio cases have been reduced by 99.9 percent, and just two countries continue to report cases of wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan. And we remain committed to the end.
