District 5470Hello Rotary friends!
We are very excited to have the opportunity to host the 2023 Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) this summer from June 13-16. Colorado Mountain College will house the event for the weekend in Leadville, Colorado. We are looking forward to hosting around 60 of the best kids from around District 5470 starting at 2:00pm on Friday, June 13th and finishing up around 11:30am on Sunday, June 16th. Due to limited room availability, each club will be asked to initially send no more than 2 students. We will create a waiting list in case rooms become available and will notify you if your club can send more.
The outdoor recreation amenities in our area are endless and we are planning to offer the RYLA participants a chance to experience leadership development through outdoor experiential learning as well as traditional classroom instruction. CMC offers the opportunity to experience a ropes course, a climbing wall and hiking. Students will stay in dorms (2 to a room), eat in the cafeteria, and utilize the classroom and gym spaces.
Our focus this year is on developing youth leaders who will make impact in their communities and schools. Specifically, the weekend curriculum will include exploratory conversations, hands on activities and personal goal setting in Youth Social Justice and Advocacy, Ethical Leadership Skills, and Impactful Communication Skills.
Important things to note:
- Transportation to and from RYLA is provided or coordinated by the club.
- All adults who transport youth must have a background check completed prior to driving them to RYLA. The RYLA event will pay for the background check. An email will be sent to the transporting adults. (This is not necessary if a parent is driving their own child…and no other youth are in the car).
