Betty L Screpnek   *   Rotary District 5370 Governor 2013-14  

Betty has been a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Edmonton Glenora for over 18 years, and served as the Centennial President. 

As a professional business woman, she was President and CEO of BGS Enterprises Career & Corporate Development for over 23 years, successfully managing projects assisting Albertans in the workforce to achieve their peak potential in the area of personal and professional coaching, training and facilitation.

As Chair of the Board of Directors of a multi-million dollar insurance corporation in Alberta, she provided leadership to three stakeholder groups and established a framework for governance policies and strategy. 

In her community she has been very active in numerous not-for-profit and business organizations and was honored with an award by the YWCA Tribute to Women in the category of Social Services for the Edmonton Capital Region.  

Betty’s Community Board experience is rich and varied:

  • She is one of the founding members and President of Alberta Special Olympics for Edmonton and Strathcona County;
  • Chair of Strathcona Social Services Advisory Committee, 
  • Board Member of the Gateway Association for Mentally Handicapped, 
  • Campaign Cabinet member for Alzheimer Residential Care Centre through Capital Health, 
  • Member of the Edmonton Chapter of the Famous 5 Foundation and 
  • Member of the Advisory Council for Goodwill Industries.
  • Chair for Alberta Association of Career Consultants, 
  • Advisory Committee for Northern Alberta Institute of Technology for Office Administration Program, 
  • Advisory Committee to Faculty at Grant MacEwan College Connection Program, 
  • member of Public Enterprise Governance Forum for Canada.  
  • Keynote speaker in Adelaide, Australia for a seminar in Corporate Governance for Public Sector Boards. 

Although an active business woman, wife and mother, it is Rotary that has caught her undivided attention. She and her husband George have been very committed and continue to be very involved as the District Governor.

Betty has chaired numerous Rotary committees and provided organizational skills and leadership for: 

  • the District International Committee, 
  • the Integrity Awards and WCSS; 
  • International Hosting and Travel Fellowship 
  • 10-day excursion in Northern Thailand for 85 Rotarians from all over the world.  
  • Member of the District Belize Literacy Program and Strategic Planning Committee 
  • and most recently installed a playground in Belize.

Betty’s participation in Rotary includes:

  • Seven International Conferences and 
  • numerous District Conferences.  
  • She has been very involved in International projects and fairs in Belize, Poland, Guatemala and Ukraine.
  • She is a seven times Paul Harris Fellow, 
  • a charter member of the Paul Harris Society for District 5370 
  • and a member of the Bequest Society. 

George and Betty recently celebrated 43 years of marriage and are blessed with a wonderful son who was born with developmental disabilities. Betty proudly states that he has been her most influential teacher.
