What is Giving Tuesday?
It’s a simple idea: whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbour, lending a hand to a stranger, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and every Rotary member has something to give.

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, join the movement dedicated to giving – Giving Tuesday. On 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟯𝟬𝘁𝗵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟭, make a gift to “𝘋𝘰 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥”, donate to The Rotary Foundation. Join Rotary members across Canada and around the world and make a difference.

Wainwright Rotary Canola Grow Project tops off
CT Scanner Project

Our story starts three years ago.  Having completed a fabulous Rotary Splash Park, our club invited ideas for a new project that would have sustainable long-term community impact.  Dr. Beverly Brilz suggested we consider a full body CT Scanner at the Hospital. When we discovered that our doctors send around 4000 people from our area communities each year to Camrose, Edmonton, and Red Deer for CT Scanner tests, often by ambulance at considerable cost and time, our club adopted the CT Scanner project.

Signing a MOU with Alberta Health, the local share at $2.2 million, our club knew this could be achieved only by engaging businesses, organizations and communities who would be served by a CT Scanner. Roger Holmes, publisher of the Wainwright Edge, was instrumental in informing and encouraging the community weekly, including Scanner Man rising in red from toe to head throughout the three-year fundraising campaign. The CT Scanner project touched the core of the area communities and organizations, even children selling lemonade to raise funds often matched by their parents.

As COVID blew steam from our traditional fundraisers, up stepped local farmer and Rotary coordinator of the CT Scanner Project, Bryan Perkins, with an imaginative idea - The Rotary Canola Grow Project.

The Canola Grow Project was fun, rewarding and put the CT Scanner fundraising campaign over the top.  You can view this chapter of the story by watching this video:
