December Food Bank Donation Challenge

We invite Rotary members to participate in a year-long Food Bank Donation Challenge.  Each month, we'll post a suggested list of 5 items. These may include non-food, necessity items. Feel free to play along and purchase those items, or items of your choice, and deliver them to your local Food Bank. Or, you may want to check with your local food bank first to see what they are low on at the moment. Alternatively, you may prefer to provide them with a monetary donation or monthly pledge.

Invite your friends, family, colleagues, and social media connections to participate. We ask everyone to keep track of their donations and, at the end of each month, submit them to Kitt at kittbrand@gmail.com, so we can track the impact of our contributions. Let's see what the power of Rotary can do for our food banks!

Thank you!
Thank you so much for those who made donations at the Fall Assembly for the Bed Drive.  A number of items were collected and some cash donations were received.

RYLE 2023

I hope you all have been doing well. My name is Rehma Khan and I am the External Chair for Rotary Youth Leadership Experience (RYLE) this year. RYLE is a 4 day leadership camp that will take place at Camp Nakamun from May 4th-7th 2023. This program is tailored for high school students between the ages of 14-18 (exceptions may apply).

During this camp, students are exposed to various experiential leadership activities where they get to learn with leaders from across Alberta. They also get to enjoy the outdoors and try some fun activities such as human foosball, the king swing, scavenger hunts, and many more! And students will be given the opportunity to learn more about Rotary and Interact as well!

Our applications will be opening in January 2023, but in the meantime, I am currently working on presenting the program to Rotary Clubs across District 5370 who are interested in learning about the program and the benefits that it has for youth. I can do online and in-person presentations so feel free to reach me at rehma@ualberta.ca if this is something you are interested in or if you have any questions regarding RYLE 2023.

Yours in Rotary,

Rehma Khan

Project Amigo Fundraiser

Many children who are living in poverty in the town of Suchitlan, Colima, Mexico would not have Christmas if it wasn’t for the support of volunteers and supporters of Project Amigo.

Their goal is to give a brighter future - through education - to these children who would otherwise be working in the sugar cane fields or the berry patch at the age of 10-12.

Project Amigo’s annual Christmas Fiesta week is an opportunity to provide the 300 children in our Elementary School Program with a new pair of shoes, a set of clothes, a book, a toy, a visit with Santa and a fiesta, something their parents would not be able to afford.

Please help us reach our goal to raise $15,000.00 and bring a smile to these children’s’ faces. Your contributions are really appreciated.  Thank you!

District 5370 ONLINE AUCTION

Imagine One's Dream" a limited-edition print, signed and dated by Darren Jones, a Chicago artist and brother to Jennifer Jones, is being auctioned on-line between November 26 and December 19, 2022. Funds raised through the auction will be designated for the Polio Plus fund.

The "Imagine One's Dream" original painting was a combination of acrylic paints, industrial staples, shredded studio paperwork, plaster and beach sand painted on wooden panel. For this piece, Jones used beach sand from their family cottage in Ontario, and paper he shredded and used from the Rotary website to include the "Objects of Rotary and the Four Way Test." After the textures were layered and dry Jones said he began the colour process by literally applying paint to his hands and then onto the panel. The colour palette was inspired by the colours of Rotary and the Presidential theme. "The gradient shading is also done on purpose to create a more landscape emotion, representing the horizon we all walk towards!!" states Jones.

The numbered print includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity and is valued at $800. It has been framed and would be a beautiful addition to a home or office to reflect the importance Rotary plays in the lives of people around the world.

Bidding closes at midnight on December 19, 2022.

Governor's Travels November 14

Well, this was a marathon club visit to the Rotary City, aka Grande Prairie to visit the Rotary Clubs  Grande Prairie Sunrise, Grande Prairie, Grande Prairie After Five, and Grande Prairie Swan City

Donna didn’t come with me because she had fallen and fractured a bone in her ankle. Instead, she stayed home and sewed a quilt for the Marketplace at District Conference.
On the drive up I noticed that the big rig trucks were back on the road, a sure sign that something is working in the province.

The four GP clubs do so much together that it is worth noting the thought and detail that has gone into their Joint Venture Agreement. The “Highway to Mexico” crew had just arrived back and were really pleased that all 11 ambulances and emergency vehicles made it to their destination without incident and cleared the respective border crossings.

There is great cooperation among the northern Rotary clubs to helps deliver these vehicles. It is truly amazing! Their house lottery is an impressive fundraising project.

Devon Potter, Asst Governor, and I embarked on a whirl wind cluster of board meetings and capped off the visit with a combined assembly of over 100 Rotarians for a dinner and presentation.
Thank you!
Thank you to Western Moving and Storage, and Ted LeLacheur, for storing items from our District Office after our move.
