District Governor Elect
Congratulations to Christopher Chukwunta
Chris Chukwunta is YEG Passport Rotary Club Co-President-Elect.

"The Master of the Household has received His Majesty’s Command to invite Mr. Christopher Chukwunta to a reception to be given at Buckingham Palace by The King and The Queen Consort on the occasion of Commonwealth Day on Monday, 13th March, 2023, at 6 p.m."

Though I have had the opportunity to engage with global leaders to discuss issues around sustainable development, climate change, renewable energy and youth over the last 13 years, this invitation was such a rare and great honour indeed!!

It was my first invitation to a reception held at the home of a global leader - the King of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms, including Canada that I have made my home.

I had met with King Charles III (as Prince Charles) for the first time last June at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (#CHOGM) in Rwanda working on the Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Initiatives (CSCI) call to action with the Commonwealth Youth for Sustainable Urbanisation (CYSU), The Prince's Foundation and partners on the Declaration on Sustainable Urbanisation which was signed by the Commonwealth Heads of Government, and reported in the CHOGM Communique.

For me, these engagements and the reception at #buckinghampalace are opening up greater opportunities for driving climate action and actively facilitating the energy transition across and beyond the Commonwealth - next stop is renewable energy projects at scale in Belize City while extending the opportunity to other Caribbean countries and Africa.

Now more than ever, the urgent need to move from talk to action cannot be over-emphaszied!! This has been highlighted again by the IPCC final synthesis report released this week, and re-echoed by the United Nations Secretary General: “This report is a clarion call to massively fast-track climate efforts by every country and every sector and on every timeframe. Our world needs climate action on all fronts: everything, everywhere, all at once.”

One question for you, what action are you going to take to mitigate this existential threat of climate change to our planet before it is too late?!

Special thanks to the Commonwealth Secretary General, @Rt Hon Patricia Scotland and the Commonwealth Secretariat for the amazing opportunity!!
RYLE

Greetings Rotarians!

Hello again! My name is Kira Eberts and I am the 2023 Chair for Rotary Youth Leadership Experience or ‘RYLE’.

This is a reminder that there is just ONE MONTH left for students to register for RYLE 2023!

Applications close on April 13th and we encourage all clubs with interested students to register in advance of the deadline. FAQ & Sponsorship Info: Sponsorship Tips and FAQ.docx

RYLE is an opportunity for students to gain and strengthen leadership skills as well as network with like-minded students while also having fun! This year we will be returning to Camp Nakamun May 4th - May 7th! Rotary Clubs are invited to sponsor high school students; Applicants do not need to be involved with Rotary or Interact to attend!

Please let us know how many students your club will be sponsoring for each program by April 13th 2022 so that we can ensure all sponsorships are filled. The sponsorship fee per student is $475. Please email us to let us know how many spots to save for your club.  Application links are attached below:

RYLE: https://forms.gle/KjZCBsvxpaDmko428

*NEW* Students Seeking Sponsorship: We have received many applications this year from students interested in attending RYLE, however, some of the students do not yet have sponsorship, our team is working hard to find sponsorship for these students as we hope every interested student can attend! If your club has any available funding for youth programming and is interested in sponsoring one (or more) of the students in need of sponsorship, please let us know! We deeply appreciate your help and support!

Please share this amazing opportunity with students who you believe may benefit from the experience.  On behalf of the RYLE Committees, thank you for your continued support of our Camp, and we look forward to having your students join us! If you have any questions regarding RYLE, please contact us at ryle5370@gmail.com.

Yours in Rotary,

Kira Eberts, RYLE 2023 Chair ryle5370@gmail.com

March Food Bank Challenge
We invite Rotary members to participate in a year-long Food Bank Donation Challenge.  Each month, we'll post a suggested list of 5 items. These may include non-food, necessity items.

Feel free to play along and purchase those items, or items of your choice, and deliver them to your local Food Bank. Or, you may want to check with your local food bank first to see what they are low on at the moment. Alternatively, you may prefer to provide them with a monetary donation or monthly pledge.

Invite your friends, family, colleagues, and social media connections to participate. We ask everyone to keep track of their donations and, at the end of each month, submit them to Kitt at kittbrand@gmail.com, so we can track the impact of our contributions.
Let's see what the power of Rotary can do for our food banks!
Congratulations to Pauline Perreault

In Memoriam
As per our tradition at our District conference, we will be honouring Club members who passed away in 2022/23. This would include anyone who has passed since May 1, 2022 and was not recognized at last year's District Conference.

If you have a member(s) in your Club who we should be honouring, please send me their:
  • full name,

  • photo,

  • short bio,

  • which Club they were a member of, and

  • which years they were a part of the Club.

Please send the above information to me by March 31, 2023. If you miss the deadline, I'll do my best to include them in the video but I can't give a guarantee. They may end up being honoured at next year's conference.

Thanks for your attention to this important initiative.
