Not registered for the District Learning Assembly on Saturday morning, April 17? Undecided about attending?

Well, we think you should register today! And we have at least 10 reasons why this is a not-to-be-missed event:

It’s Virtual! No travel. No accommodation costs. No meals to buy. P.S. You don’t even have to wear pants, unless you really want to.
RI Holger Knaack will be there. As Rick said in the movie Casablanca, “Of all the Rotary Districts in all the towns in all the world, he walks into our Learning Assembly.” P.S. Maybe we didn’t get that quotation quite right, but it is special and an honour that with 530 Rotary Districts worldwide Holger found time in his busy schedule to speak at our Learning Assembly.

We all know that Rotary is about fellowship. It’s why many of us joined and why even more of us stay.

Fellowship can go beyond our clubs, Districts and even country boundaries when we opt to join one of the more than 80 Rotary Fellowships.

According to information from the Rotary International website, “Rotary Fellowships consist of members who share a common interest in recreational activities, sports, hobbies or professions. These groups help expand skills, foster vocational development and enhance the Rotary experience by exploring interests while developing connections around the world.”

Fellowships are open to all Rotarians and their families and to participants and alumni of all Rotary and Foundation programs. They function independently of Rotary International, establishing their own rules, dues requirements and administrative structure.

There are fellowships for Rotarians who are passionate about antique automobiles, magic, bird watching, marathon running, photography, railroads, Rotary on stamps and many other areas of interest.

Join the Party

Wednesday, May 12, 6:00-7:00 p.m. MDT

This will be a 60-minute fast-paced virtual Gala for The Rotary Foundation (TRF) designed to help Rotarians, clubs and Districts in Zones 28 & 32 meet and even exceed their 2020-2021 goals for both the Annual Fund and PolioPlus fundraising.

This variety show will be co-hosted by RI Director Valarie Wafer and TRF Trustee Dean Rohrs and feature Master of Ceremonies Past RI Director Jeffry Cadorette, distinguished speakers, entertainers, a live auction, inspiring stories about service supported by TRF, and much more!

Tickets to the virtual event will be by a donation of US$100, 500, 1000 or 5000 (+ service fee) that will be directed 75 per cent to the Annual Fund of TRF and 25 per cent to the PolioPlus fund. You will receive a receipt for tax purposes and will be awarded Paul Harris Fellowship points for your donation.

The fourth in the series of sessions to prepare presidents-elect to lead their Rotary and Rotaract clubs during 2021-2022 is scheduled for Tuesday, April 13, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. MDT. Topics to be covered during this interactive session co-facilitated by Tyla Savard (RC of Grande Prairie) and Stacey Scott Nykolyshyn (RC of St. Albert) include growing membership and engagement through partnerships, service days, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Ensure you are registered in advance and watch your inbox for a message from DGE Donna Barrett which will include the detailed agenda and related materials.

The first three sessions were recorded and are available for viewing in the District’s virtual learning library:

January 19 – Planning the year, leading Rotarians, leadership styles and the Rotary Learning Centre.

February 9 – Running club meetings.

March 9 – Strategic planning, goal-setting, club roles and club operations.

Future PE training is scheduled for May 11 and June (TBD).

The Rotary District 5360 (Southern Alberta) annual conference which will be delivered on a virtual platform on Saturday, May 1. Together we will “Navigate a New World” guided by inspiring speakers and interactive sessions that energize and challenge us to do the impactful work of Rotary.

We would love to accept all types of used tablets and phones, but unfortunately the latest video conferences software does not support end-of-life devices. Check out the criteria for donating supplied by Project Joy.

In order to use your donated device and protect your privacy, you must:

• Unlink your Apple ID and iCloud account (or any management account for Android devices)

• Factory reset your device

• Remove its protective case

RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program for Enrichment) is for youth 15-18 and geared toward personal growth and development.

Grant Certification

There are five requirements to be able to participate in Rotary Foundation Grants in 2021-2022. Clubs are required to:

1. Have at least one member participate in grants certification webinar (only members that have participated will be able to access the ClubRunner application module)

2. Scan Memorandum of Understanding, including signature page and upload into ClubRunner Documents Folder

3. Ensure final reports for previous district grants are submitted through Grants Module and all required global grant reporting is up to date.

4. Enter Foundation SHARE and PolioPlus Goals on Rotary Club Central

5. For District Grants submit Grant Request complete with estimated budget (step one) by May 31, 2021 (Global Grants do not have a cut-off date for application but are subject to available funds)

Three more certification webinars have been planned. Follow the link to register for whichever time works for you. All webinars will be exactly the same and are offered at different times to allow for everyone’s schedule. We have allowed 90 minutes for each webinar, which is the same as in prior years.
