August is Membership Month!
What motivates Rotary members?
We’re celebrating Membership and New Club Development Month in August.

We know that the main reasons our members join and stay with Rotary are community service and friendship. That makes this month the perfect time to learn more about how to further engage with our global community and make a positive difference.

The 2021 Waterton Glacier Peace Park Annual Assembly Goes Virtual!
After considerable and deliberate discussion by the 2021 WGIPPA Assembly Planning Committee, it has been decided to change the 2021 WGIPPA Annual Assembly to a Virtual Zoom format. In making this decision, the Committee weighed the safety risks associated with holding large indoor and outdoor celebrations and meetings during the midst of the recent Covid-19 surge, against the safety protocols required to insure a completely safe event. Despite the nearly overwhelming desire to get friends together, it was decided that the risks of an in-person event greatly outweighed available mitigative safety measures.

All individuals who have previously registered for the in-person event will be refunded the full registration cost. Registrants are responsible to cancel any of their own hotel registrations which may have been made.  A new registration link will be available to register for the virtual Zoom Assembly on the WGIPPA website (watertonglacierpeacepark.org).

The Zoom Assembly will be held on the originally chosen date of Saturday, September 18, 2021. Virtual Registration will be available for a $25.00 charge, which will help defray costs incurred by the organizing committee for the in-person event.

A condensed version of the Assembly’s original planned content will be retained in the virtual event, and the new Virtual Assembly Program, which will start at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 18, will be posted on the WGIPPA website (watertonglacierpeacepark.org).

As in past Peace Park Assemblies, a WGIPPA Board of Directors meeting will be held (this year by Zoom) at 6:30 PM MDT on Friday, September 17.  The WGIPPA Annual General Meeting will be held (via Zoom) at 10:30 AM MDT on Saturday, September 18, and will be concluded prior to a lunch break.  The 2021 Annual Assembly Program will then follow at 2:00 PM MDT.

Many heartfelt thanks go out to the 2021 WGIPPA Planning Committee for the innumerable hours they have expended, and the comprehensive planning they have undertaken, to make this year’s event an exciting success under extremely trying conditions.

Please join me in re-registering for this outstanding 2021 Waterton Glacier International Peace Park Association Annual Assembly, in Virtual Format.

Building Youth Programs - A Blueprint for Success
Youth is the future of Rotary. Building upon the foundation of the hard work of so many Rotarians and young leaders in our District is so important as we re-engage and change lives.

Under the guidance and leadership of Rotary District 5370 Youth Services Co-Chairs Elizabeth Bonkink (Rotary Club Edmonton Gateway) and Myles Dykes (MacEwan Rotaract), our benchmark youth programs are moving forward in new and exciting ways.

YOUR support is so important as we work towards in-person youth programs: RYLA, RYLE, RYPEN, Youth Exchange, Interact and Rotaract. This means we need YOU to invest your time, talents, energy, mentorship and continue to invest financially in creating opportunities for these young leaders to grow and continue their Rotary journey.

This 10 minute video shares the success stories of so many young leaders in our District as our benchmark programs truly make a difference! Sharing this with your club, schools, leaders in your community, and more will open the door to creating opportunities and understanding what it means for young leaders in Rotary.

Who should we share this success story with?
  • Rotary clubs and members
  • Rotaract Clubs and members
  •  Interact Clubs and members
  • Parents
  • School Principals and leaders
  • Guidance counselors
  • Community groups (e.g. Boys and Girls Clubs, iHuman, YouCan and so many others!)
  • Rotary Youth Alumni
  • Stakeholders and youth champions
AND, please share on social media! Tag someone YOU recognize, Rotary District 5370, and anyone else who would love to be invested in creating youth leadership opportunities.

Youth Services is also looking for Rotarian Advisors to help support the leaders of tomorrow. If you are someone who is perfect for the role or know someone who is, reach out to Elizabeth and Myles.

Thank you for all of the work that each member and club does for the young leaders in our District. Together, we can change lives as we are People of Action who Serve to Change Lives!
