Deadline for submissions for the December 20 issue of the District 5370 CONNECTIONS is noon on Friday, December 18. Send your submission to communications@Rotary5370.org.

What is your club doing for the holidays?

At this time of year, Rotarians usually gather to celebrate the holiday season. This year, things will be different. There will no parties or holiday gatherings. But that doesn’t mean that the desire to make fellowship part of the Rotary experience has gone away. We would like to hear what clubs are doing so that members can share the spirit of the season with other Rotarians and family members. Submit a description of what your club is doing to celebrate the holidays “together while apart” to communications@Rotary5370.org. Include photos. We will combine what we receive to create a mosaic of fellowship across our District.

For years, the presidents-elect of Grande Prairie’s four Rotary clubs and its Rotaract club have been responsible for organizing the city’s Rotary Day event.

Being assigned this task creates an opportunity for the incoming club leaders to get to know each other and provides a reason for them to work collaboratively.

“It is something we do in Grande Prairie as presidents-elect,” say Nadine LaCroix, president of the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie-Swan City. “I can see the brilliance in that now, getting the presidents-elect to begin to work together before they move into their positions to get to know each other and build relationships.”

This year, this tradition turned out to be more a planning process for an event that never occurred due to the pandemic.

Realize there is no finish line

Even if your club is the optimum size, that’s no reason to stop recruiting. There are always reasons people leave.

“You’re either growing or you’re dying as a club.”

Help Nourish Our Neighbours this Holiday Season

The Rotary Club of Whyte Avenue is raising funds through an online auction to support the Fresh Routes & The Neighbour Centre Mobile Grocery Store this holiday season.

The Mobile Grocery Store (MGS) is a community-driven grocery store on wheels that increases the availability of healthy, affordable and culturally appropriate foods in under-served neighbourhoods.

The MGS carries a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, bread and healthy non-perishables under market value, allowing all individuals to have access to healthy food.

Will YOU help nourish our neighbours this holiday season? Bid on our silent auction or make a general donation.

Check out this Rotary Hot Sauce jingle, written and performed by Canadian singer/songwriter Danny Michel to encourage the purchase Hot Sauce from Belize to support literacy initiatives in Belize

As the weather turns cold, here’s your opportunity to bring the Belizean Heat!

To support literacy initiatives in Belize, Rotary Clubs of Edmonton Riverview and Edmonton West have teamed up for a unique and deliciously spicy fundraiser: Marie Sharp’s award-winning hot sauces (plus jams, spreads, chutneys, jellies, salsas, juices and seasonings).
