Rotary International and its partners have adopted a comprehensive strategy to eradicate polio by 2018 and urgently need the support of every Rotarian to make this happen.  There are several things you can do immediately.

Visit www.rotary.org to submit your club's PolioPlus contribution goals for the year (this is separate from your Foundation contribution goals).  RI suggests a minimum of $1500 per club, but is encouraging those that are able to commit more.  Please be as generous as you can.

Remind your club of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's new matching grant:  Every $1 Rotary commits for polio eradication activities will be matched 2:1 (up to $35 million per year) for each of the next 5 years.  If Rotary is successful in contributing $35M annually for five years, together Rotary and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will donate $525 million toward the $1.5 billion funding gap that currently exists in fully implementing the strategy.  Ask them to encourage their friends and associates to go to endpolio.org to learn more about the issue and how they can support a very worthy cause while leveraging their donation 2:1.

Download the World Polio Day webinar from www.rotary.org. Get a status update on polio eradication, suggestions for celebrating World Polio Day, and ideas on how your club can make history.

Efforts are underway to have every city in the District acknowledge World Polio Day (October 24th) by proclamation to generate awareness of the issue and raise the profile of Rotary in local communities.  If you have not already done so, contact Julie Jenkins (jjenkins845@charter.net) to receive the materials and information you'll need to ensure that your club is included.  The PolioPlus tab under Foundation on the District's website will have updates on "World Polio Day: Making History" at both the District and worldwide levels beginning the week of September 16th, 2013.
