The Urban Needs Task Force has undergone a name change- the "Rotary Community Alliance".

Urban Needs Task Force, the name has served District 5280 well. From its inception in the early 90's the name identified a group of Rotarians interested in serving communities. These Rotarians met regularly to identify and promote specific programs which helped to address many of the challenges faced by communities at the time. Over the years Rotarians from various clubs in District 5280 have joined and participated on this committee to learn and share ideas.

The mission of the committee remains as clear today as it did in the beginning: to serve our communities. Challenges present in our communities today are complex and wide-reaching. Responses to these challenges by members of the community require collaborative alliances involving individuals, groups, and organizations, working together. Rotarians are well-versed in this process.

What is in the name, "Rotary Community Alliance"? Webster's New World Dictionary defines the following:

  • Rotary: (yes, you will find Rotarian and Rotary Club defined in the dictionary!) an international service organization comprised of professional and business men and women.
  • Community: all the people living in a particular district, city, etc.
  • Alliance: a close association for a common objective.

The name reveals who we are, who we serve, and how we serve.

The Rotary Community Alliance (RCA) is involved in the following projects planned for the near future:

  • Collection Drive for Military Families in Need at District Breakfast, May 12th
  • Collection Drive for PAL (Police Assistance League)
  • Camp Pendleton Visit in June
  • Tour of the Town (a Saturday tour of 3-4 exceptional community projects) in June

Please refer to the District web site and the "Weekly Announcement Spotlight" for upcoming information. Meanwhile Rotarians are encouraged to consider joining a future Rotary Community Alliance (RCA) meeting or project event. This represents yet another opportunity for Rotarians to come together and enjoy wonderful fellowship.
