Enjoy the Resort and Hot Springs

If you are looking for BC hot springs then look no further than the healing hot mineral waters of Harrison Resort, revered as the "healing place" by the local Sts'ailes First Nations for thousands of years before they were found by Europeans in the 1800's.

Settlers are said to have 'discovered' the hot springs in 1858 while enroute to the gold fields. Their boat capsized, and expecting to meet their doom in the frigid waters, they instead discovered that the lake at that spot was not freezing but rather warm. Local First Nations called the Hot Springs Kwals, meaning boiling water. The hot springs were revered as a "healing place" by natives of the Coast Salish people, who travelled by canoe to benefit from their waters.

Enjoy the Beauty and Nature

The Harrison is the first river in Canada to receive the designation of Salmon Stronghold as the only area in BC to host all five species of salmon and steelhead trout. One of the key tributaries draining into the Harrison River is Weaver Creek which also boasts an incredible hatchery open to the public. This incredible biodiversity provides the perfect environment for a host of species that rely on the salmon as a food source. In addition to the thousands of bald eagles that descend on Harrison Mills every fall, seals, seagulls, bears and sturgeon all rely on the spawning salmon.

To celebrate the natural spectacle of thousands of bald eagles congregating on the Harrison River the Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival was established in 1995. While some bald eagles are present on the Harrison River year round, the great congregation runs from October to February peaking in mid November when the Festival takes place. To get a chance to see some of the beauty surround Harrison Hot Springs check out one of our great hikes or paddle yourself down the Harrison River.
