Rotary District 5050 Youth Service Programs
Rotary's programs for students and youth can change the lives of those who participate. Through these programs, young people can earn scholarships, travel on cultural exchanges, or help a community through a service project.
Our youth programs include the following (click the program logo for more information):
YAIL and RYLA are two weekend young leader programs that are held annually.
YAIL (Youth Adventures in Leadership) is a weekend retreat for young people in grades 10 and 11 (ages 15-17), typically held in February or March. YAIL is now accepting applications through its website.
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is a 4-Day program for young adults between 18 to 30 years. This program is typically scheduled in April or May, and begins accepting applications after mid-January. Learn More.
Interact is an ongoing sponsored program that is based in high schools and the community.
Interact is for students from 12 to 18. These clubs are based in schools and are sponsored by a Rotary club.
YES (Youth Engaged in Service) is another program for Juniors / Grade 11 students. The program which sponsors high school students on an International Service project (currently in Guatemala). Youth are required to perform volunteer hours throughout the school year, earning credit towards the cost of the trip (paid by a sponsoring Rotary club). Students are asked to join or form an Interact club following the service trip.
The mission of the program is: "to provide leadership development opportunities while engaging youth in Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self, both locally and internationally."
Rotary Youth Exchange sends students (16-17) overseas for a year and welcomes overseas students for the same period of time. December 15 is the deadline for applications.
Rotary Adventure in Citizenship Program by the Rotary Club of Ottawa
invites students from across Canada to the nation's capital. For more info on this program go to www.rotaryottawa.com
