PROGRAM

This week Luna Vista welcomed Tanya Garcia-Cadena from the Woodland Food Closet. Who gave us an update on what is happening and changing at the Food Closet.
Woodland Food Closet provides a basic, direct service. They provide 3 days of food, 9 meals in all to individuals or families who don’t have any other way to obtain it.

Some of the people they serve are elderly as well. Still others are disabled or suffering from a serious debilitating illness. They have nowhere else to turn for basic sustenance.

All clients are referred by a social service agency. They accept referrals from all agencies in town.  also churches and schools. A referral form is completed and the client comes to the Woodland Food Closet that day to pick up needed food and supplies.

Woodland Food Closet is operated entirely by volunteers, with the exception of a part-time paid Coordinator.

The Woodland Food Closet relies on the assistance of community members and organizations to provide emergency nutrition for families. Funding from some community sources will be "drying up"  Like the Raley's organization that had been a huge donor in the past. They will be looking for new funding in the future to keep this worthwhile organization working.

At the completion of the presentation several Luna Vista members contributed monetarily to the food closet.
