Luna Vista hears about the RI Convention and Bark in the Park

President Charlene had a hearty group for our Thursday night meeting.  Guests included Dean Labadie, Sean Colon and Tammy Pohl.

PP Don gave us a few highlights of his Bangkok experience, including the news that Bhutan had become the 201st country to join Rotary International. He came bearing gifts of a Bangkok banner and vivid orange scarf for President Char and an armband of authority for Sgt. at Arms Doug.

President Elect Vinnie was the recipient of a Flags of Rotary tie, to encourage a bit more decorum in the coming year.

Doug wowed us with great news about two projects:

·         The Banner Project has been approved by the Yolo County Fairgrounds as a 3 tower fixture that will utilize two banners for better visibility.

·         Our ball wall project for Knights Landing Sci Tech is a go! The school board and other entities have signed off on the project and all craftsmen are in place to complete it. Principal Barbara Herms has obtained some funds and is planning a “cinder block sale” to help raise more. All of that money will come to Luna Vista to help complete the project. Then, Doug rings the bell with the announcement that Home Depot will donate the materials! Great job Doug!!

Dexter announced a donation of a mobility chair on our behalf that was worth $5,000. After some refurbishing, it was donated it to a deserving person recommended by Yolo Adult Day Care. Nick Pohl’s moving talents were called upon to complete the delivery.

Dean Labadie shared the good news that the Capay Valley Rotary Club is going to reformat and restructure, rather than disband. Their next meeting will be on May 31st at a location to be announced.

Dean also shared about his upcoming surgery in August, which will take place during the fair. Ron Richardson volunteered to take over the leadership role for the Rotary

Beer Booth in Dean’s absence.

Char brought us up to date on the Bark in the Park event which takes place on the 19th.

Ute announced President Charlene’s demotion will be at Ute’s house again this year, on June 14th, which is our regular meeting night.
