Craig Reynolds shared with Luna Vista his passion for Project Amigo, supporting educational needs of disadvantage children in Colima, Mexico and his need to help fund it by growing Agave for tequila.

Project Amigo transforms lives through education.  It was formed in 1984 and became a US non profit in 1996.  The goal is to support children of Colima, Mexico to reach their highest potential by providing educational opportunities, material support, enrichment activities and medical services.

Project Amigo owes both its beginnings and its longevity to the “service above self” contributions of thousands of Rotarians and Rotary clubs.  It was an official international service “project” of the Rotary Club of Novato, CA between 1996 and 2002. Today it is an independent public charity and asociacion civil recognized in United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Project Amigo’s mission is to support youth in Colima, Mexico to create their own educational opportunities and better their quality of life. It offers opportunities for international, life-changing service to those of greater means which is a perfect match for serving significantly, generously and effectively beyond oneself.
Individuals, Rotarians and Rotary clubs can:
  • Sponsor primary children in the Incentive Program; encourage Club participation in the Sponsorship program
  • Sponsor secondary youth or college young adults through the Scholarship Program; encourage Club participation in the Scholarship program
  • Serve with us in Mexico on a Humanitarian Service Work Week
  • Bring your entire Club down for a Humanitarian Service Work Week!
  • Invite Project Amigo representatives to make a presentation to your Rotary club
  • Develop club or district grants to fund the purchase of books for our ongoing Literacy program
  • Contribute to various “special need” campaigns that arise each year
Craig Reynolds shared his experience of growing blue agave in the Colima Highlands of Mexico to produce Dos Volcanes spirits (tequila).  He started this in 2006 to help finance Project Amigo, provide scholarships to students and support families with their children’s education.
